Blogs – WordPress

Tuesday, November 9th, 2010

We’re going to talk about blogs, in particular a blogging platform called Wordpress and why it’s preferred by thousands of Internet Marketers around the globe. First, let’s talk about what a blog is.

Blog is a shortened version of “web log”, basically an online diary. It’s been around for more than a decade and its uses have since changed from something pretty personal to something which has better Internet Marketing applications.
When Internet Marketers talk about blogs, they’re more referring to the type of website rather than the uses. A blog, in particular the Wordpress platform, has very strong SEO capabilities. For some reason, Google ranks blogs very highly in search engines over static HTML (“regular”) sites.

This is due to the fact that Wordpress allows for easy addition of content in the form of posts. The more regular the posts are, the more regularly Google will come back to look at your website. Add content regularly enough, and something you post on your blog will get “indexed” or put into Google’s results pages, a lot quicker.

People who have blogs that they’ve added content to over a long period of time have reported that new content they add actually appears in Google for a chosen keyword rather quickly.

You don’t have to pay for a blog either, although you can choose to install it onto your website after you purchase a domain and hosting. As mentioned in previous modules, websites like Blogger.com and Wordpress.com are perfectly equipped to help you make the most out of your Internet Marketing ventures.

It should be mentioned that Wordpress is more suited to Internet Marketers than Blogger is, due to the fact that it has “plugins”, which are self-contained programs you can install into your Wordpress blog to make it perform better. There are quite a few free SEO plugins out there. In the following module, I’m going to talk about Wordpress plugins and themes, which allow you to customize the look, feel and effectiveness of your Wordpress blog.

Best SEO Practice

Saturday, October 30th, 2010

How to  make sure your website will come up strong on top of the search engines.

1.    Start now!
I am not kidding when I say get started straight away. You know how earlier I said something about article marketing is slow and steady and PPC gives you relatively quick results? Well, SEO sort of fits in both categories and here’s why.

Reliable SEO takes not weeks, not months, but YEARS to establish. You’ve got to have a relatively “aged” domain on a website that’s been up and running for a few years for it to make an impact. It has to have been regularly updated with content. SEO isn’t just about getting ranked in the search engines, it’s also about a good attitude towards Internet Marketing.

Nothing happens overnight, nor even in a few months. Starting now with your own hosted website is a good practice to keep so that you end up with a website that can be very valuable a few years down the track.

2.    Build links
Aim to build a consistent amount of links every day. This practice will not let you down and will ensure that a website you start now is optimized well. Even if it’s writing an article a day and putting a link in the Bio Box redirecting back to your site, that’s all it takes if you really want a website with good SEO.

3.    Anchor text
With the links that you build, always remember to make the anchor text the keyword or keyphrase that you want optimized. For example, make sure that the keyphrase “how to lose weight” is bolded and hyperlinked to your site. Hyperlinked meaning made into a link (usually in blue and bolded).

This is just something that makes it easier for the search engines to find the keywords that will be used for off-page SEO purposes.Make sure to keep each of these three things in mind if you want to incorporate SEO into your Internet Marketing. Even if you’re going to rely on PPC, it’s good practice to be mindful of.

Paid Forms Of Traffic Part 2

Sunday, October 17th, 2010

There is another version of paid traffic which isn’t as popular but is an option and that is virtual classifieds. When you open your newspaper, there is a section called “Classifieds”, which is usually in the back of the newspaper. Tiny ads fill the entire page, asking and offering different things.

It’s basically the same thing with virtual classifieds. One of the more popular sites are USfreeads.com there are also free virtual classifieds advertisement sites which are quite popular. Gumtree.com and Craigslist.com are two of the more well-known ones. What’s special about USfreeads is that you can get more exposure for your advertisement because you’re paying for the space at the front of the list.

Just like Clickbank, the listings are broken up into different categories. Depending on what you’re selling, your product will appear in a certain category. You can start with a free listing, but chances are, it will probably be lost amongst the rest of free listings that are entered into the system every day.

If you don’t have a site, this is an effective and relatively cheap way to get started in Internet Marketing. Just like “real” offline listings, a virtual classified is restricted to a certain number of words as well, so you have to make sure you are able to persuade your intended audience that what you have to sell is what they are looking for.

Of course, you don’t have to say everything you want to say in the classified itself. You can link to your own site which will have more information about the product that you have on offer. You can also insert a PayPal button directly in the advert itself, through which the prospect can directly purchase your goods or service.

There is also premium membership for the site, meaning that your ads will stand out more and naturally, will get more exposure and attention from people visiting the site.

If you’re comparing PPC and virtual classifieds, virtual classifieds are cheaper but probably less targeted. PPC advertisements will cost more, but  as long as the quality of your site is impeccable, there shouldn’t be anything to worry about. If you to learn more about traffic generating to your website you can attend Internet Marketing Seminar

Paid forms of Traffic

Thursday, October 14th, 2010

Paid forms of traffic, namely PPC and virtual classifieds. These forms of traffic are popular because people have seen results virtually in a few hours after investing in them. More often than not though, these results are hard to replicate and it is not recommended for newbies to try them until they have a bit more experience in the Internet Marketing field.

I will use Google’s Pay Per Click network as an example. The advertising networks of other search engines behave in a similar way. PPC Internet Marketers focus on specific groups of keywords to try and get ranked for them in the paid listing in the search engine results page.

For example, if you type in, “how to lose weight” into Google, you will not only see the “natural listings” as a result of SEO, you will also see paid listing on the right hand side, which are usually against a shaded background.

These are ranked in a certain order. It has been proven that PPC advertisements closer to the top right make more money. To get to the top right, you have to satisfy a few requirements. Firstly, your ad has to be relevant. You can’t be in the listings for “how to lose weight” if you’re selling a product about stocks and bonds.

Secondly, you have to have the highest bid on the keyword for which you’re trying to rank for. More often than not, there are numerous people trying to get ranked for the same keyword as you. You have to decide how much you want to pay every time someone clicks on your PPC ad. The person who can afford to spend more on PPC tends to win.

Thirdly, you have to build rapport and trust with Google itself. PPC advertisements are monitored and scrutinized closely everyday so that no one takes advantage of their network for personal gain. Unfortunately, that goes against the whole point of PPC marketing in the first place.

Your content has to be genuinely helpful and not too “salesy”. If you have a big budget and wish to dabble in PPC, by all means go ahead. You may or may not succeed at first go, but make sure to spend and bid responsibly.
