One way to gain popularity for your website is to build links that point back to your site.  When the search engines see that you have a lot of other websites linking to your site they will know that your website is popular and will reward you with a higher search engine ranking.

Some website owners have misused the link building process by creating link farms for the sole purpose of building backlinks to their websites and the search engines have become aware of this and will restrict those websites to misuse the process.  For those website owners who use the link building process correctly they can achieve very positive results.

You can give your website a very important internet presence when you use link building effectively.  Here are some effective methods for building backlinks to your website.

1. Link exchanges.  With a link exchange you contact other website owners and offer to swap links.  You place a link to their website on your site and they return the favor and place a link to your website on their site.  If you don’t want an ‘obvious’ link swap you can try a three way link with another website owner so that no two websites are directly swapping.

2. Article Marketing. Write articles and submit them to article directories.  Most article directories will allow you a resource box where you can include a link to your website.  Good quality articles will get many readers and if you use your resource box wisely you can entice those readers to visit your website.

3. Article syndication.  If the articles you submit to article directories are of high quality there is a good chance that they will be syndicated.  This means that other website owners will publish your articles on their websites.  The terms of website owners’ using your article is that they include the resource box that includes the link to your website.  The more your articles are syndicated the more backlinks your article will give you.

4. Blog commenting.  Find other blogs within your niche and leave comments and include a link to your website.  Never spam blogs with your comments or they will most likely just get deleted.  Instead, always leave good quality comments on blogs.

5. Forum marketing.  Join some forums within your niche and include a link in your forum signature.  You should always check the forum rules before doing so as some forums don’t allow signature links.  Be an active participant in the forum as the more posts that you make the more links you are building with your signature link.  Leave information and helpful forum posts and other forum members are more likely to click on your link and visit your website.

When you get visitors to your website make sure that you keep those visitors.  Have an interesting site that gives visitors what they are looking for.  A good, information and exciting website will keep visitors coming back.

The basic method for link exchange is a simple link swap where you contact another website owner and offer to put their link on your website in exchange for them putting your link on their website.  You would usually do this with a website that had relevant content to your website.

Another common way to build links to your site is to pay for incoming links from high ranking websites.  This is an effective method but the payment may be recurring on a monthly basis.

Do some article marketing to build links.  Article marketing is simply writing articles that are relevant to your niche and submit them to other websites, mainly article directories.  With each article that you submit you include a link to your website.

You can then submit your article to high ranking article directories like EzineArticles.com, ArticlesBase.com and GoArticles.com.  Readers love to know more about the topic they are searching for and if you provide good information in your article then your readers will more than likely click on your link and visit your website.

Join a forum online that relates to your niche and become a contributor, posting regular posts and comments.  Set up your signature to include a link back to your website and every time that you make a post on the forum you are creating another link pointing back to your site.  If you make your comments interesting and informative then other forum members will likely click on your signature link and visit your website.

If you’re looking for a free web site traffic counter, you really don’t have to look very far. There are many websites that provide this service to you.

If you’re not familiar with the basics of a free web site traffic counter, here′s just a brief explanation. You sign up for a free account, enter in your contact details or whatever other information required, and you are given a code
which you can then paste into your website so that the program can retrieve the necessary data. If you want the number of website visitors to your site to also be shown to your web visitors, you can choose a code for that. Website Hit Counters offers a great variety of counter graphics to choose from, in all sizes, shapes and colors. This service also adds a sponsor into their code that either links back to Website Hit Counter′s website or the sponsor.
This informative site also offers good resources, tips services, guides and information for webmaster.

Free Hits Counter is yet another free stat counter. This is a very basic site, with a few counter designs to choose from. Just plug in your site information and you are ready to go. This site is also free because the counters are sponsored by advertisers who receive a small link.

If you do decide to go for one of the free web site traffic counters, make sure that you do not alter the code (for example, to take out the sponsor link) as this violates their terms of service.

We’re going to talk about blogs, in particular a blogging platform called Wordpress and why it’s preferred by thousands of Internet Marketers around the globe. First, let’s talk about what a blog is.

Blog is a shortened version of “web log”, basically an online diary. It’s been around for more than a decade and its uses have since changed from something pretty personal to something which has better Internet Marketing applications.
When Internet Marketers talk about blogs, they’re more referring to the type of website rather than the uses. A blog, in particular the Wordpress platform, has very strong SEO capabilities. For some reason, Google ranks blogs very highly in search engines over static HTML (“regular”) sites.

This is due to the fact that Wordpress allows for easy addition of content in the form of posts. The more regular the posts are, the more regularly Google will come back to look at your website. Add content regularly enough, and something you post on your blog will get “indexed” or put into Google’s results pages, a lot quicker.

People who have blogs that they’ve added content to over a long period of time have reported that new content they add actually appears in Google for a chosen keyword rather quickly.

You don’t have to pay for a blog either, although you can choose to install it onto your website after you purchase a domain and hosting. As mentioned in previous modules, websites like Blogger.com and Wordpress.com are perfectly equipped to help you make the most out of your Internet Marketing ventures.

It should be mentioned that Wordpress is more suited to Internet Marketers than Blogger is, due to the fact that it has “plugins”, which are self-contained programs you can install into your WordPress blog to make it perform better. There are quite a few free SEO plugins out there.
