Best SEO Practice

Saturday, October 30th, 2010

How to  make sure your website will come up strong on top of the search engines.

1.    Start now!
I am not kidding when I say get started straight away. You know how earlier I said something about article marketing is slow and steady and PPC gives you relatively quick results? Well, SEO sort of fits in both categories and here’s why.

Reliable SEO takes not weeks, not months, but YEARS to establish. You’ve got to have a relatively “aged” domain on a website that’s been up and running for a few years for it to make an impact. It has to have been regularly updated with content. SEO isn’t just about getting ranked in the search engines, it’s also about a good attitude towards Internet Marketing.

Nothing happens overnight, nor even in a few months. Starting now with your own hosted website is a good practice to keep so that you end up with a website that can be very valuable a few years down the track.

2.    Build links
Aim to build a consistent amount of links every day. This practice will not let you down and will ensure that a website you start now is optimized well. Even if it’s writing an article a day and putting a link in the Bio Box redirecting back to your site, that’s all it takes if you really want a website with good SEO.

3.    Anchor text
With the links that you build, always remember to make the anchor text the keyword or keyphrase that you want optimized. For example, make sure that the keyphrase “how to lose weight” is bolded and hyperlinked to your site. Hyperlinked meaning made into a link (usually in blue and bolded).

This is just something that makes it easier for the search engines to find the keywords that will be used for off-page SEO purposes.Make sure to keep each of these three things in mind if you want to incorporate SEO into your Internet Marketing. Even if you’re going to rely on PPC, it’s good practice to be mindful of.

Search Engine Optimization Part 2

Monday, October 25th, 2010

We discussed what on-page SEO was, now it’s time to talk about the more interesting and powerful off-page SEO.

As implied, Off-page SEO relies on the fact that Google ranks websites according to its authority. There is something called, “Page Rank”, which gauges this authoritativeness. The Page Rank system gives a number from 1 to 10 to each site, based on a special algorithm engineered within Google.

It doesn’t take much to realize that the bigger sites that have been around for longer will have a higher Page Rank than new sites.

The way that off-page SEO works is, you want to try and get a link from a site that has a high Page Rank. But not just any site. The site also has to be relevant to your own site. For example, if you want to sell an E-book about how to lose weight but you get a link from a site that’s promoting laptop repair, that link is going to be of little use.

The key is getting a link that is both relevant and authoritative. Naturally, this doesn’t come easily; if every person who sent an email to a big, authoritative site got a link back to their website, that site wouldn’t be very authoritative anymore. Google would frown upon them and strip them of their Page Rank.

That’s why when people write articles and post them to EzineArticles.com, the Page Rank of the individual article itself isn’t very high, while the Page Rank of the main website is high.

However, as a newbie Internet Marketer, this is one of the best ways to actually get started with Internet Marketing. If you don’t have much authority yourself, you have to just write articles and put a link in the Bio Box for the off-page SEO.

There is one more thing that’s of importance when considering off-page SEO: anchor text. This is basically the text that gets hyperlinked when there is a link to your site. If you’re promoting an Ebook on how to lose weight, you want to make sure that the off-page link has the keyphrase, “how to lose weight” bolded and linked. That will maximize your SEO chances.

Search Engine Optimization

Saturday, October 23rd, 2010

In the previous few modules, we talked about both free and paid forms of traffic. These people will come wherever they are and be redirected to a site you own. Search Engine Optimization makes a lot of traffic possible in the first place, especially Article Marketing.

The Internet is constantly growing. Pages and pages of content are being added to it every second, non-stop. The search engines’ jobs are basically to get all this content and to arrange it so that the most relevant content is at the top of each search. They want the user of their search engine to get the best help possible there is to offer online.
Search Engine Optimization is about getting your website or webpage listed as high as possible in the SERPs (Search Engine Results Page). As you could probably figure out, the higher the page is ranked, the greater the share of the traffic you receive.

Because the landscape of the search engines are constantly changing, SEO must adapt. It’s impossible for your site to stay ranked on the first page forever, unless you make sure it always stays relevant.

There are two forms of SEO to take notice of: off-page and on-page SEO. In simple terms, on-page SEO is basically how the words on the page are arranged and off-page SEO is about who’s linking to your website and how authoritative they are.

Google has “spiders” that “crawl” your site to see how relevant it is. When the spiders crawl over your webpages, something they take notice of is how frequently the words on your page are repeated. One would assume that a site that repeats the phrase, “how to lose weight” more times than another site would be more “relevant” and have more information in that topic. Thus it would be ranked higher.

Of course, this would be a terrible loophole that could be exploited like crazy one would just write “how to lose weight” 500 times to be ranked easily for that keyword. Not the case. In fact, if the keyword density is too high, the webpage won’t even get ranked for that keyword.

It is also believed that the “spiders” also tend to “crawl” your webpages from top-left to bottom-right. So if you have your keywords sprinkled in roughly a diagonal line from top-left to bottom-right, you will have a higher chance of being ranked for that keyword.
